Whisper it in hipster travel circles, but Marrakesh has always felt a bit style over substance. It’s exotic all right — you can do the souks, see the Majorelle Gardens, Instagram the acrobats on Djemaa el Fna — and it offers cracking cuisine, boutique hotels and rooftop views of the Atlas Mountains, but is there actually enough to do?
There is now. Opened last autumn, the striking Yves St Laurent Museum is worth a morning on its own, while new galleries, clubs, bars and boutiques are giving the city a contemporary buzz. It’s also going to be 27C next week. Allons-y!
